UI and UX are often used together but they aren’t alike as both have distinct roles to play. UX design focuses on the overall user experience like how a product works and how easily users can achieve their goals. In its contrast, UI design focuses on the visual appearance which has interactive elements like buttons, sliders, or tabs to interact with app or website.
UX designers create structure, flow, and usability of a product while UI designers design the look and feel of the interface that covers colors, typography, and layout.

Just imagine there is a website which is easy to use but looks unattractive then it means that the website it has good UX but poor UI. And if it looks beautiful but it’s confusing to use for users then we can say that it has good UI but poor UX.
Is Coding Necessary for UI/UX Design?
Honestly, almost 90% of students ask me this question like whether coding is necessary to become a UI/UX designer. So, the answer is no as coding is not mandatory at all for this field.
Nowadays, most of the UI/UX designers are using digital software applications like Adobe XD, Figma, and Sketch in which they can create frames for screens and prototypes them without any coding. These tools not just provide easy to use interfaces but also assist in testing user flows easily.
Always remember that the primary role that covers 80-90% of the work include wireframing, visual designing, prototyping, etc. using tools like Figma. The remaining part is known as secondary role which is just 10-20% and includes the understanding of HTML, CSS, and basic JavaScript. This knowledge assists in maintaining better communication with developers and getting a clear idea technical limitation. This way designers and developers attain better design feasibility.
So, even if you are focusing only on designing part then you still cover 80-90% part and maintain a right spot in the field.
Why UI/UX Design is a Good Career for Non-Coders
UI UX design is one such career that focuses on different types of thinking rather than technical coding skills. It is completely a non-coder field where you have to focus on research, wireframing, and visual storytelling instead of writing code. Not only this, you emphasize on product performance that directly decides whether user will stay, engage or leave your mobile app or website.
Another reason is that there isn’t any one type of work in this field. You have different tasks to perform with diverse career paths. From UX research, visual designing to usability testing, there is a lot of versatility involved in this domain. No doubt you need different strengths to perform such tasks but it doesn’t require coding knowledge.
