His question was that what are the important qualities to be a great graphic designer and how these qualities are important? So, let’s try answer it in a simple way. This answer has structured by one of our most senior design faculty members Deepak Bhaduria sir.
Let’s elaborate what did he reply to Ritik during class.
Deepak sir’s response was:
“Well, qualities are important as the personality traits. Always remember soft skills of a designer separate a good designer to a great one.
The best designers are the one who understand the demands of the client and create a visually appealing design.
Not only this they adapt to the challenges and follow the principle of esprit-de-corps.
They also possess good communication skills to convey your ideas more effectively to the client as then only you can meet client expectations.
Successful graphic designers are adaptable to the situation and stay current to the changing trends.
Such qualities can help you as a designer in building a strong career in the industry.
Now we are diving deep into this question to list out at least top 10 important skills or qualities you need to have to be a great graphic designer in this world.
10 Important Qualities to be a Great Graphic Designer
1. Creativity
Creativity is the very basic essence of every graphic designer. It is because it allows you to explore ideas outside a particular box or limitation and remember this is something all designers need.
The role of a graphic designer is to convert abstract ideas into visual designs. A designer who is creative is also an innovator. He is the one who constantly experiments with colors, typography, and layouts to get unique ways of solving problems.
Remember, it is important to have innovation as it is that pushing power for designers that allows them to create distinctive and memorable visuals. Creativity helps in keep the work fresh in the constantly evolving industry of AI designs.
2. Attention to Detail
Attention to detail is 2nd extremely important quality for a designer. A well-designed project is generally about the small and intricate elements that designer adds in it. These small and intricate details add professionalism to the design. So, if you want to be a perfect design artist then focus highly on maintaining spacing, alignment and proportions.
Remember, even a small misalignment can disturb your entire balance of the design. So, you should ensure that every element is placed in order as that’s what creates harmony.
Also maintain consistency in design throughout your projects. You can do it simply by following the guidelines given by the brand. This way, you can ensure that the design is uniform. Just maintain the same color scheme, shapes and the typography.

A designer needs to find creative solutions to his design challenges. In order to do so a design needs to keep experimenting with different design techniques. This way he can achieve the desired outcomes.
Generally, designers face project constraints like time, budget or limitation of resources. You don’t have to worry with this, instead you must use these constraints to get most and develop innovative ways to deliver your projects.
Another important aspect is balancing the client expectations with the quality of design. You must respect client’s input and guide them towards the best solutions with your creative vision instead of arguing with them.

As a graphic designer you must have time management skills to manage multiple projects at a time. It is important to meet deadlines without compromising the quality of your work.
Another important aspect that you should be good at is prioritizing your tasks. Be a designer who is good at handling multiple projects at the same time and prioritize separate tasks accordingly. Follow client’s requirements and project deadlines to maintain workflow management and avoid burnout.
Remember to have realistic goals and break down your projects into manageable tasks. You can take breaks in between the tasks to feel fresh and avoid exhaustion in last minute rushes.

Never ignore what’s happening around you. You must keep your eyes open and ears alert. Check what’s in latest trends, updates and technology updates. This is the only way to stay relevant to the world.
Your adaptability skills will ensure that your work is current and engaging to the users. It can be either a new user interface pattern on new advancement in the animations and motion graphics etc.
Adaptability also refers to being able to manage different types of design work. You have to work with different mediums such as print, digital, web and UI/UX. So, you should be able to easily ship between the different types of projects and demonstrate flexibility.
Another point to note is that adaptability also refers to learning new tools and techniques whenever required. So, the one who keeps on learning is able to stay current with the market demands. Now choice is yours.
8. Strong Sense of Typography
