With the diverse culture and traditions, India has never failed to amaze us. People with different ethnicity and backgrounds live together here, celebrating the fun moments together. Being a land full of such diversity, every festival is celebrated with equal joy and pleasure and one such popular festival is Diwali. And what’s Diwali without different types of Rangoli?

Rangoli is an indispensable part of Diwali. People decorate their homes by making Rangoli outside their houses or around their sacred places. Various competitions are organized at school and college level to keep students connected with their traditions. Just like other platforms we every year, at ADMEC also organize Rangoli Design Competitions as a part of Diwali celebrations. Our all students of graphic design courses, animation courses, multimedia courses, textile design courses, video editing courses, web design courses participates in it.

We understand the importance of root level designing and try to incorporate the same in our students through such competitions.

As a designer, students need to understand the basic point from where it all comes from and they need to push those boundaries to excel in their respective fields. We organize Rangoli competitions to boost the confidence level in our students.

Today in this blog we bring different types of rangoli designs from which you can take inspiration and create some equally stunning designs.

1. Simple Rangoli Designs

These designs typically deal with freehand drawing. People create simple designs without getting much into the details. You can begin rangoli making with any basic design. This will not only help you in learning the basic skills of rangoli but will also boost you with confidence. You can see some examples of the simple rangoli below.

2. Geometric Shapes Rangoli

You can play with different geometrical shapes to add more appeal in your rangoli design. Artists have more scope to play with symmetrical designs using shapes. 3. Pulses and Coloured Rice Rangoli

4. Colorful Flowers Based Rangoli

Rangoli is considered as a sacred task and flowers are always used at places where we relate anything to beauty, sacredness and religious feelings. People create visually stunning designs using flowers. They use flowers of different shapes and colors to add vibrancy and texture to design. 5. Rangoli with Clay

A highly innovative concept is creating rangoli using clay. All you need is lots of clay and clay mould to create these designs. It will be fun to explore this side of designing. You can use organic clay to avoid any connection to harmful chemicals. The plus point of using clay as a material is it can be moulded and can be reused again again. 6. Acrylic Rangoli with Beads & Kundan

Taking the creativity game one step higher, designers incorporate various things to make their rangoli appealing and eye pleasing. 7. Fingered Gap in Rangoli Designs

There are various techniques that can be used to create rangoli but using fingers to create a gap that complements the design is my personal favorite technique. You need to be more careful while using your fingers as your body is more involved in designing, the chances of creating any error increases in this case. Just be a little careful while trying out any design that requires use of fingers or other parts.

8. Rangoli Designed with Hair Comb

Like I mentioned earlier creativity knows no bounds and there are very few people who try to do things by going out the way. Professional rangoli designers use comb to add fine details to their designs. Check out how designers have used comb to turn out even a basic design into the stunning one.

9. Vegetables and Fruits’ Rangoli

This is quite interesting to watch out. Usually such designs are only created during competitions. People do not make rangoli designs using fruits and vegetables on a regular basis. Such experiments are done to capture audience attention and to make them aware that even this is also a kind of art. Have a look at how designers used fruits and veggies to create rangoli.

10. 3D Rangoli Designs

To add more depth to their designs, some designers create rangoli in 3D perspective using paint colors. They play shadows and highlights to add a new perspective in the design.

11. Rangoli with Colorful Papers

Till now we have seen people using so many things like flowers, pulses, colors to create rangoli but one thing that doesn’t usually come to people’s mind is making rangoli using paper. Paper is very light weight and will easily blow away even with a slight wind. Rangoli using paper is created using some adhesive to add more stability to the design. These designs are not created on larger areas rather people take some hard surface like board and paste paper of different shapes, folded in other ways to create rangoli like patterns.

12. Advance Level Designs of Rangoli

These designs are created by professional artists. They have experience and expertise in creating complex design structures using different materials. The designs look complex in nature and require a lot of patience and fine detailing skills from the artist. Look at these advanced level designs made by professional artists.

13. Abstract Rangoli

Abstract drawing is not a new addition to the rangoli designs. When you create designs that do not follow any traditional rules and look contemporary in feel are usually considered as abstract designs. These designs are usually free of dependency factor. No element of design looks dependent on each other yet the design delivers the sense of completeness and wholeness.

14. Rangoli with Threads and Bangles

You can easily get thread of various colors and they can be used in a variety of ways. Designers can either make pom poms from thread and use them. Bangle can either be used to create a perfect circular pattern or as a part of design itself.

15. Rice Powder Rangoli

Besides colors, people use various other things to create rangoli designs and one of them is rice powder. Such rangoli designs are more prevalent in the southern part of India and look aesthetically beautiful on dark base floorings.
