SUMMARY:UI Design Competition 2023
DESCRIPTION:ADMEC recently organized a UI design competition on May 11\, 2023. And the given topic to all teams was the “Re-designing of a video editing institute website. \nIt was a full day competition. \nThe competition was divided into five rounds\, each with its own time limit: \nRound 1 – Brainstorming/Research (45 minutes): In this round\, team members had to conduct research and brainstorm ideas. Each member was assigned a style guide and specific tasks under the guidance of the team leader. Additionally\, file-making work was done in this round. \nRound 2 – Handmade Sketches (30 minutes): In this round\, participants had to create presentable and correct user interface sketches on sheets. These sketches acted as mock-ups for the graphical user interface design of the website. Existing images\, parts\, and other sketches were incorporated into the user interface sketches. \nRound 3 – Flow Chart (30 minutes): This round focused on creating a flow chart that demonstrated how the team’s product would appear on the website. \nRound 4 – Wireframes (30 minutes): Round four was dedicated to creating wireframes in high and low fidelity. Wireframes are monochromatic drawings that serve as blueprints for the page structure\, layout\, and information of the application’s UI. \nRound 5 – Final Mock-up and Prototyping (45 minutes): The last round involved creating the final structure of the product\, including micro-interactions to showcase how users would interact with the product. This stage required the students to demonstrate their hard work and teamwork. \nJudgement Criteria of the UI Design Competition\nThere were three sections to score marks in for all teams: \nSection 1: Team and File Management (15 Marks)\n\nTeam Management: This criterion assessed the team’s ability to work together effectively\, allocate tasks\, and collaborate. The team dress code played a significant role in securing full 10 marks in this section.\nAttendance: Attendance records were considered to evaluate the team’s commitment and participation\, with a weightage of 5 marks.\n\nSection 2: Project Management (70 marks) \nThis section comprised two parts: Planning and Designing. \nPlanning: \n\nFile Making: The organization and structure of files and resources were assessed\, accounting for 10 marks.\nDesign Brief: The teams were evaluated on their ability to understand and follow the design brief provided\, with a weightage of 5 marks.\nPlanning and Analysis: This criterion assessed the team’s planning process and their ability to analyze the requirements of the project\, carrying a weightage of 10 marks.\n\nDesigning\n\nUserflow: The teams were judged based on the clarity and effectiveness of the user flow in their design\, accounting for 10 marks.\nSketches: The quality and presentation of handmade sketches demonstrating the user interface were evaluated\, carrying a weightage of 10 marks.\nWireframes: The teams were assessed on their creation of wireframes\, both in terms of high and low fidelity\, with a weightage of 15 marks.\nMockups: This criterion evaluated the final mock-ups and prototypes of the product\, accounting for 5 marks.\n\nSection 3: Team and Project Presentation (15 marks)\n\nTeam Presentation: The teams were assessed on their ability to present as a cohesive unit\, with a weightage of 5 marks.\nProject Presentation: This criterion evaluated the clarity\, organization\, and effectiveness of the team’s presentation of their project\, carrying a weightage of 10 marks.\n\nThe grand total score on the scoring sheet was 100. \nTime for the Result\nAt the end of the competition\, Team A\, mentored by Deepak Sir and led by Akansha\, emerged as the winning team with the highest scoring marks. Team C\, mentored by Anuradha Mam and led by Rashmi Pal\, secured the runner-up position. Team B and Team D were the remaining teams on third position. \nSpecial awards were given to acknowledge outstanding performances. Akansha from Team A received the Best Team Leader award\, and Ghanan from Team C was recognized as the Best Performer of the competition. \nKudos to all the participants for their outstanding dedication and remarkable accomplishments in the competition!
