Introduction to ActionScript

ActionScript doesn't need any formal introduction today. It has already reached at its peak and has achieved a standard in industry. Every programmer, web designer, and Flash Designer has adequate idea about it. But still for newcomer ease I would introduce it like this—"ActionScript is a scripting language, useful for creating interactive assignments with depending more on timeline."

This section will explore how to use all the diversified technologies and applications necessary. Here you will also learn about some competitive technologies of Flash.

Getting started with ActionScript

It's the real time to attend the ActionScript show. Here you will go through the concepts and basics to become a professional Flash programmer. Programming fundamentals, Objects, Data Types, Variables, and Functions are some of the examples that will be covered in this section. And this section will also explain you how to deal with the complete process when you work on some real world projects.

ActionScript Languages and Syntax

This section is successfully delivering contents required to know about core ActionScript language and syntax. Here we will drill down for advanced data typing, variables, functions, objects, document class basics, and a bit inheritance.

Object-Oriented Programming in ActionScript

Real scene of the programming begins from this chapter. Here we will emphasize on basic elements of Object Oriented Programming in ActionScript 3 as inheritance, polymorphism, encapsulation, composition, and interface. Event Handling

Working with Geometry

Want to create your own objects by programming then go for flash.geom package. Here you will find many more methods for creating rectangles, points and setting matrixes. You will also learn how to use declared properties in other classes.

Using the Drawing API

Want to start application from the blank canvas that gets shapes, images, video, audio etc through ActionScript on the fly. Then this chapter will help you, here we will teach you how to create your own graphics that open up a broad possibilities for your application. You would be able to create your drawing application, user interface, interactive art and many other elements by the ActionScript 3.0

Filtering Display Objects

Programmer can apply filters from flash.filters package to achieve many of the same effects that are available in many graphics manipulation programs like Photoshop or Fireworks.

Working with Movie Clips

The MovieClip class is the core class for animation and movie clips which are on the timeline. This class can be used as inherited class for movie clip symbols, so that this symbol can achieve all the events, properties, and methods associated with the base class. ActionScript 3.0 provides a very advanced and different approach when it comes to deal with the timeline. Our instructor will focus on all these in this chapter.

Working with Text

This section reveals all the matter related to dealing with text in ActionScript. You will learn how to display, manipulate, restrict, formatting of the text and capturing and restricting the input text.

Working with Bitmaps

ActionScript has the capability of creating, manipulating, and customizing bitmap data dynamically. You can also use advanced built in filter effects as noise or image effects on the piece of bitmap. All other related techniques will also be describing by us in this section.

Working with Video

ActionScript has introduced many new features to work with video object in Flash. You can set cue points and convert your video to multiple thumbnails without cropping or chopping out your videos. Our instructor will explain how to create or modify custom video skins and players.

Working with Sound

Sound is one of the most powerfully immersive ActionScript 3. Here you will learn how to load dynamically sounds from external location, sound controlling, adding sound effects on a video, audio feedback on an application interface etc. And you will also learn how to capture sound's meta and amplitude information to create visual representation of the sound data.

Capturing User Input

This section describes how to create an interactive user application that captures user inputs. And also will explain about the keyboard and mouse events, and then some more advanced options as customization of the context menu and focus management in ActionScript 3.0

Networking and Communication

In Flash you can communicate by a swf file with another swf file. You can fetch data, objects, and other information from some other swf files. You can establish a connection between Java Server and Flash Player that send and accept messages. But this is not the limit, you can also upload and download files from swf files by using File Reference and File Reference List.

Collaborative Project

Students will have to work with client side projects/ live projects and will have a degree of flexibility in choosing the orientation of their project. Students will work as a team and will be jointly responsible for the planning, conduct and outcome of the project, under the supervision of a member of staff acting as a guide. The project will be a significantly-sized production, with the objective of producing an output reflecting a real world need, together with accompanying documentation.
